America was founded on the philosophy brought forward by the two men depicted above - A philosophy of individual freedom. A principle diametrically opposed to imperial and/or divine control. It give man the freedom of will - as opposed to the pre-determined fate that enslaved most. Prior to Christ, all life was subject to the order of the gods. The were ruled over, and property of, god-kings whose chosen few lived of the work of masses. The Hindus had a caste system, much like the Greek pagans. There were the free and the slaves. Freedom was reserved for the nobility and slavery for everyone else. Even for the Hebrews (who were not pagans - with many gods and demigods), freedom was only for the chosen - God's chosen people. There were the Kosher (clean) and the unclean. Much like the caste system you were born into your station. This view of life continued into the Roman Empire.

Then in the Roman province of Palestian, a Jewish man was born named Jesus Christ. He was said to be the Messiah (savior) that the Jews were waiting for. A Saviour and King who the Jews hoped would destroy the Romans and give the Jews the world. However, as his life unfolded this was not to be. He had crazy ideas, like all could commune with God the Father. he strict rules of the Jews and the governing structures we challenged - for the lowest sinners were held in the same regard as the highest in society. Christ even went as far as to say that, God was in the unclean - and the actions done to the unclean was also being done to God. He said he was the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords - yet he shuned the laws of vengence (an eye for and eye). As such, the Jewish authority employed the Roman court to eliminate this threat to their power and authority. Expecting that if this was indeed Go, that no man could kill God. Yet, from the view of the world that is just what happened, at the point that would become 0 AD - God was killed by Roman and the Jewish authorities. Afterwhich, the Jewish authorities began to war amungst themselves. Roman responed by destroying Palestian and exiling all Jews, Christians, and all other Hebrew groups.

It's would seem inconceivable that an empire could be conquored by dieing - yet this is just what occurred. As the Roman Empire tried to wipe out the Christian, who chose death just as Christ had, the number of Christians increased. The more Christians were put to death, the more their were. Then around 300 AD, the Roman Empire became Christian. An irony, and a problem, because early Christian Theology (pre-1000 AD) also was based in the idea that man was free to choose his relationship with God and could never be imposed by the church or some "authority". This freedom, termed free will, gave each individual that right and opportunity to be his own king, with no authority above him. It created "Individual Soveriegnity". This is the basis of American Democracy. However, as with all concepts, it becomes eroded with time - and the United States is no exception. The desire for power by those who wish to govern, and not serve the people, has become paramount once again. The fight and struggle for true freedom never ends. The events in history, that have seen the American (Christian) gates of freedom closed and in ruins, also provided the motivation for the gates of freedom to be openned once again!
